I have never had a problem with lightroom classic until the last couple of weeks. Suddenly it freezes and won't let me move to another picture or change from library to develop. I have to quit the program and reopen it for it to work again. Anyone else experiencing this.

Thanks for any info.

If you have the subscription software, you might open a technical support chat with Adobe. If you have a phone connected to your computer, you might disconnect the phone before restarting LR and see if that helps, particularly for the older standalone classic versions and an Android phone. Adobe technical support will probably have better ideas.

If you are using the subscription version it now requires a lot more power to run. How old is your computer and how does it compare to the requirements?

Also, how long since you did "house keeping" such as cleaning caches, running apps to clean out old files, the registry etc?

I am running the subscription version on a 2013 MacBook Pro.

I have problems using full screen on an external monitor for reviewing or retouching. This is a somewhat recent problem, it happened within the last year.

When reviewing the program is very slow to respond and freezes for multiple seconds sometimes 10s of seconds. I don’t usually have to restart but it is virtually unusable for quickly reviewing images.

My work around is to avoid full screen mode. It seems to work ok as long as I don’t use full screen mode for reviewing. 😡

If you are using full screen you might try exiting full screen and see if it makes a difference.

Robert why does the subscription version now require more computing power?

Go look at all the new functions it has. And some of those are almost on a par with the AI apps being put out.
They need more RAM and a better GPU with more memory.

Sounds like it is mainly in your RAM and GPU, though a 2013 is now a bit long in the tooth CPU wise.

If you look at what was a typical computer in 2015, and compare it to today's comparably priced computer, you'll see it is more powerful, ram and storage is cheaper and faster. Adobe has added more feature and function as a result of having more capable computers.

I had similar problems and increased the RAM and it runs fine now.
As others have said, LR eats computer resources and additional RAM helps.
I'm at 32gb on a Mac now but it still doesn't run as fast as I'd like.

I have 16GB ram. I check ram usage it’s not close to full. The problem does not happen with Bridge or LR (cloud) only LR Classic when using ext monitor in full screen mode.

When Lightroom acts oddly, it is common to "reset the preferences". Google for "reset lightroom classic". There will be plenty to read.

A few people have announced that running Lightroom as administrator fixes the issues.

Right-click on your LR symbol, select Run As Administrator. See what occurs

Thanks everyone - I contacted Adobe support and they helped me clean up the applications. As always I get good info from this site.

I had the same problem and seems my hard drive was filling up. My 1Tb drive only had 100 Gb free. I deleted and moved some files and found a huge improvement in speed.

There are tune up options can be it cache settings or temp storage size etc etc. i would jump into You tube and look up tune-up for LR classic. Lots of stuff under edit-preferences. I would start here. 16 GB is on the edge depending on what else is also running and using memory plus the size of raw files, etc

Good Luck.
