I am riding my motorcycle from Utah to Alaska next June. I am limited on room, and can't decide which camera to take. I have Nikon D7500 with 70 to 300 zoom and a Nikon P1000 with tremendous amounts of zoom, but not the picture quality. How about some pro help here.

On my motorcycle size and weight matter most. P1000 for sure.

The P1000 will be much better in Denali.

What's more important to you, weight/space or picture quality?

Have a great trip. To capture the memories take your Nikon D7500 with 70 to 300. Great camera and zoom range quality. Have fun and stay safe.

A totally non-pro response. You answered your own question. The P1000 makes inferior photos.

You might consider adding a short zoom, about 18-50, for some of the amazing landscape you'll be riding through. It doesn't weigh much and won't take up very much room.

P1000 for wt/space. 7500 for higher quality. It's up to you
Have a great time!!!

On the motorcycle? Take the Nikon P1000. I used to Ride to MotoGP in Monterey every year. I have many great photos of MotoGP racing using my Nikon P. Some of those I simply could not get with a DSLR.

Go for picture quality. Picture quality will last forever, while inconvenience will be soon forgotten.

That camera and lens combo is essentially a 105-450 setup. I think that severely limits you. Take the P1000 for the wide angle opportunities. How important is picture quality if you can't compose the shot at all. Just my opinion.

The D7500, and if you have access to a Nikkor 18-140 zoom, that is a great combination. Another good choice would be the Tamron 18-400. That should give you great wide angle coverage, and the 400mm end should be about all the zoom you’d need, being it would effectively be the equivalent of 600mm with the crop sensor.

Longshadow, both cameras take up about the same amount of space. I believe my choice should have been between picture quality and the ability to zoom into animals, etc.

Having ridden a motorcycle cross country several times, whenever I wanted to take a picture I had to get off the bike and get my camera out of my luggage. As you’re going to have to do the same, no matter what camera you take, I would definitely take the D7500 for picture quality. You are going to see some fantastic scenery and will want to capture it in the best possible quality.

What I’m saying is just make room for the D7500.

I want to thank everyone for their comments and help. I am still confused but it is up to me to choose the right camera. I have until June to change my mind 20 times.
