Uncle Sam or US Mail?

After 5 months, I was beginning to really worry about my Federal tax refund check. I mailed both my State and Federal income tax statements in late March. After about 6 weeks, my State refund check arrived. OK! Put that one in the bank. Fed shouldn't be far behind. Wrong! I waited and waited and no check was forthcoming. I was really dreading having to call or email the IRS to have them try to find out where my check is. It was preying on my mind every now and then. Then, Saturday, Aug 22, I went out to my mailbox to collect any mail I may have received. And there it was, my Federal Refund check. Oh, what a relief it was. Going to the bank tomorrow and depositing it. I hope this isn't the way it's going to be from now on. They can do better. In the past it was 3-4 weeks at most.

You really should file electronically and have the refund deposited directly to your bank account. Our (wife & me) refund usually hits our bank account within 2 weeks. The state takes a week or 2 longer. Another benefit this year is the stimulus checks hit our bank account directly with no delay.

Why don't you have direct deposit? Checks are becoming obsolete. You can still file on paper and have direct deposit.

Direct deposit and electronic deposit is the way to go.
There are those who think mail in ballots are the way to go. You waited how long for a refund. Think about the complexity of an election?

You are assuming the delay was the fault of the Postal Service rather than the IRS.

Good point. Who counts the ballots? Again there would be two Federal agencies involved in a very important process. No matter the winner it will still be the same ole $hit diffrent face. Maybe this time the taste is not so bad.

If you look at the title you'll see it is in the General Chi-chat non-photography site.

No, I'm not assuming anything. My title has both agencies in it. Uncle Sam or US Mail?

My response was clearly to TraderJohn.
Your title said it correctly—leaving the blame undetermined between the two agencies.

I have an accountant who does my taxes and he prefers not to do it that way. Never had a problem b4 this year. Usually 3-4 weeks tops for State and Fed returns.
I'm fine with it.

No, it wasn't "clearly" to anyone. You did not respond under their name with "Quote Reply", therefore I had to guess/assume it was for me. That happens a lot on this site.
