Canon 24-105 F4L on eBay

I have been looking at a Canon 24-105 F4L on eBay that is listed for a few hundred dollars cheaper than the normal price. One I'm sure it is an import and am wondering if it would be safe to buy. I have also dismissed one seller as it it 6th Ave Electronics which is in NYC and I know they are disreputable.
I also would like to say hello as I have been viewing this site for several years and have found it quite informative but am just now registering and posing a question.

Is it the original or mk II? That would make a difference.

Buying from ebay will not have a warranty from Canon, whether a grey market or a US model.

Is it used or new? If it is a "gray market" lens (imported by a non-Canon business) it will not carry the Canon warranty, it is pretty unlikely for a new lens to malfunction. Some non-Canon sellers also offer a warranty good at other repair centers. Some people pay the extra for the reassurance of having the Canon warranty. Others are happy saving money and most never have a problem. So.... you pay your money and you take your chances. Also consider KEH photovideo - they are a very reputable seller of used equipment, which will have some warranty. Whatever, this is a fantastic "walk-around" lens!

Save yourself the hassle and heart ache and buy from a reputable seller. For this lens Canon Refurb, KEH, Adorama, or B&H should be the only choices. Doing this requires a few more dollars but you get some assurances that E-Bay never offers. All four offer warrantee periods, free shipping, and "No questions asked" return policies. You seem to be aware of troublesome operators and none of the 4 listed sellers listed fall into that category. My personal searches always begin with Canon Refurbished equipment, from experience they cannot be beaten in price or quality. Hope you enjoy your copy of this lens. It's versatility is tough to beat. Good luck in your search and Welcome to the Hog!

After further research several of the sellers are disreputable I’m going to buy from the stores I normally do, which is Adorama or B&H. I appreciate the feedback.

I have done business with both of these companies numerous times. The both give a six month warranty and easy return policys and have never given me anything but satisfaction with my purchases. Check em out.

I have found all the Japanese vendors on Ebay to give the best descriptions and honest one that I have dealt with.
US sellers are generally a crap shoot, especially in the honesty department, and there must be a return/refund policy.
Good luck.

Well for all the negative reports on eBay, I have bought lots of lenses on eBay and have never been disappointed yet. You have to look at the Seller's feedback rating and reports.
