Thinking that it would be appropriate to have a challenge on butterflies and moths since the butterflies and

moths will be scarce soon. Monarchs Will be migrating to Mexico in the near future. They are such beautiful

pollinators. Here are a couple of great videos that are very good on the subject...

A pretty yellow moth: A False Crocus Geometer moth also know as a Xanthotype Moth

Several years ago I found a pretty yellow moth in our yard. I found its id and discovered that this moth actually was known by two names. I found that it was called a Xanthotype Moth... Xanthotype is the Greek word for yellow!

I haven't had much time to get out and shoot this week, so here are a few oldies from '07-'09, taken with my old Kodak 6MP camera. Not sure what kind they are

Nice shots CMC I think the first is a Giant Leopard Moth.

A fluttering "butterfly" caught my eye as I hiked along a trail on the Northern California coast. It settled down, I took a closer look, and realized that it was a pair of Sheep moths mating. Butterflies get all the acclaim, but these moths are incredible!

A friendly encounter with a moth:
A few years ago my husband David and I were attending a county fair, While sitting outside I noticed a moth had attached itself to the brim of David's hat! Upon studying it closer we decided that it was a Spamworm moth. At tyheend of the day the moth stayed at the fair and we returned home with a moth adventure to tell our family about!
