Thanks for the spoiling it for those who haven't finished watching it yet. I am watching it on my DVR. It is customary when posting something about a sporting event to use a title like "Indy 500 results (spoiler)" and then reveal the result in the body of the post.

I never even thought about that this year. Oh, well. I'll try again next year. I guess I missed Le Mans, too.

I thought you were the “Internet man”. According their site, the race at Le Mans
will be run in about a month, again with no spectators present.

And the Andretti frustration continues. Despite Mario being named the Driver of the Decade, Despite Michael's 42 open wheel wins and 3rd all-time winner, and despite Marco earning the #1 starting position for this year's race, they only have a single Indy 500 victory between them. As a consolation, the Andretti Motor Sports Company has earned 4 Indy 500 victories since Michael retired from being an active driver. Since our family lives in Nazareth (home of the Andrettis), we hope this so called "Andretti curse" will someday end.

It turns out that recent road-building has resulted in our being within 3 hours of IMS {on a normal day}. Every real Hoosier I know of thinks of that race as being a local event.
“Back Home in Indiana” is closely related to the actual state song “On the Banks of the Wabash”. In 1971 I had a summer internship in New Mexico. I got up in time to listen on the radio to the beginning of the race {it began at 11:00 am Indy time back then}, and still remember the tears I shed as someone sang “Back Home in Indiana”.
For many years after TV broadcasts began, ABC showed it here only on delayed broadcast, after the evening news.
The Andretti family are adopted Hoosiers; I remember his win - then how he managed to lose race after race. I agree it would have been nice for Marco to win - but so often the pole sitter doesn’t win. The race was started in 1911 to show that an automobile could go 500 miles - and that is still something of a challenge.

Our younger daughter took a tent and went camping on the infield one year. Last Spring, the Speedway thought we would have tamed this virus by now and they could have a usual event now - perhaps by next Memorial Day weekend.

After that bad accident with 5 or 6 laps to go that race should have been red flagged so that the race could have a competition finish, not a freebie under caution. That was a really dumb decision.

In 1974 I lived on Lynhurst St. Two blocks from the IMS. The sound of the race was incredible -- like they were in the backyard! I lived there when the 200 mph lap speed was atained. The first year they anticipated it happening, it didn't but the following year it was broken. I never went to the race, but did go see them practice. The tickets to get in on those days were cheap -- something like 10.00. I was there for two years and then was transferred to Bloomington, IN and only watched the race on TV. Looking back it would have been good to have attended one of those races.

My Dad and I went to the Time Trials - but never to the actual race.

I enjoyed seeing David Letterman during the end celebration. He's a partial owner of the team.
I've been at the track only once, in 2003 for the F1 race, back in the 19,000 rpm V10 days, saw Michael Schumacher win the race. It's a fabulous facility.
