While 24-120 has a better range, 24-85 is better optically, smaller, lighter and cheaper. I used it on D750 and liked it's performance. I eventually replaced it with Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 G2 for professional use.

GAS? (gear acquisition syndrome) may be the real issue...of all your current lens holdings, do you really want another lens especially a DX? I have the same issue with cameras - I love my Nikons but choose my lens carefully so as not to have "too many". I.E. 2 for my Z, and 5 for my 810 (a bit much) of which I use 2 or 3. My real "gas" problems lie in the Hasselblad arena - I have 4 and am considering #5 - and I use the all depending what I'm shooting. I'm not rich by any means, I'm retired and each camera has it's own niche and so do I. happy days! jt

Gas is always present but with intent mind.
I received a used 16-80 af-s 2.8-4 Vr from B+H. I will be using it today and tomorrow for my grandsons communion and party.
The lens feels great on my d850 and seems to be preforming well.
So far box’s checked and bonuses for my gear are;
Good AF
VR
Compact size and weight
High quality glass
Fits my d7000 for other situations.
Af -s lets me focus stack on D850
24-70 on both my d850 and d7000
Thanks for all the comments

But it's dx. Why not just use it on your D7000?

Also using FX 85 1.4 lens.
Better DR and High ISO results.

I certainly understand the 85. I'd love to have one, probably the f1.8.

So, 9 mostly wasted pages later, looks like common sense prevailed ?
