Two Spiders and a Bug

While perusing the back yard today looking to pull up some tree roots before they got too well established I noticed a bug in a huge spider web. The web was probably three feet, top to bottom. When I started taking photos of the bug (is it an assassin bug by chance) I saw the spider start to move up toward it. But of course the bug was caught. Nowhere to run as they say.

On one of my eggplant leaves I noticed another spider, even smaller, on a leaf. He refused to turn over for a better photo.

For all of the photos I used my trusty Nikon D800 with the 105mm Micro lens.

All comments are welcome.

I do too, thanks. By the photos he is only trapped by his feet. Any idea what it is?

Very good pictures! The bug is in the family Lygaeidae. They are plant feeders. Can't make out the ID without a dorsal view. so... https://bugguide.net/index.php?q=search&keys=Lygaeidae&search=Search

Good grief! I see what you mean. He looked very common until I saw the myriad of pictures and they ALL looked pretty common. Thank you.
