A while ago I had software which easily added a label to the bottom of the photo which could be its filename or any remarks... somewhere I lost the software... anyone know where I can replace it.. (like its name?) thanks, Ed
For a project I had a while back, I used Bulk Photo Watermark by Softmatic.

a direction to look, thanks, Bob
Don't most editors allow the addition of text to an image?

Do make any changes to your images or just look at them.
I guess I just look, I use the canon dpp to change filenames and may make some (cropping) changes with it tho....

Interesting. I use Windows Explorer to modify file names.
I checked DPP and cannot fine a way to add text to the image.
I only use DPP to alter the image characteristics of the RAW file.
Rarely to I add text to an image, save a signature line, then I use either Photo Impact Pro or Elements on the JPEG version.

A good choice would be Faststone Image Viewer. It's free, is and excellent Image Viewer used by most everyone. It has a lot of editing tools, including what it calls the "Draw Board". Simply load your picture and press "D" for the draw board, or slide your mouse all the way to the left with picture in full screen to see the editing menu.
In the Draw Board menu, select the text icon and draw a box wherever you want, then select the font details you want, and type in your text, then move/resize the text box wherever you want.
Faststone also has awesome resize, cropping, canvas size tools that are hard to beat. Highly recommend even to those with expensive editing apps.

dPP can modify filenames, I use it to change the filenames of all photos to the date taken, about the only way to locate an old photo. DPP will make the jpgs for you also, I believe, but a save both in the camera.
Fastone image viewer seems to be a winner, thanks all... Ed
Picassa works for adding text along with quite a few other editing options.

I have been using Faststone for a long time. For a free PP program it is great for doing simple editing, like cropping, resizing and many other things.
will
We have used Picasa for years mainly because of the label ease. When labeling trip photos, if all we want is the town name for a bunch of photos, just type it once and copy with control-c and paste on the rest of the photos with control-v. It takes seconds to do a bunch this way.
ACDsee worked for me many years ago in allowing me to create and executable slide show that would use the file name to be placed on the picture.
