To those of you who may use this product can you tell me your experience with it. East to use? Overall usefulness?
As good or better than PS? Your comments will be appreciated.
Is this a standalone, plugin or both?

The demos do look intriguing--anything to get rid of the "marching ants".

Good video on what it can do.
It's pretty easy to use, and works stand alone and as a plugin to Photoshop.
It also works within Topaz Studio program.

Have PS as well as Topaz AI Mask and use both depending on what I'm trying to accomplish. PS has a newer feature called "Select Subject" that is similar to AI Mask. Both are easy to use and both work well on subjects that are fairly well separated from the background and do not have a lot of feathery edges. Personally, I give the edge to PS Select Subject, but there is still no substitute for zooming in and drawing your own mask, or adjusting the mask, by hand when things get a bit tricky.

I've not used AI Mask, but it interests me, too. The key question is, what kinds of masking tasks is it easier or faster or more accurate than Photoshop's tools. Are its capabilities enough to justify the additional cost?

I just tried the trial version of Mask AI to try to remove a person from a relatively tricky background, as a test. It didn’t do very well at all, especially with the hair. Very disappointing! I will not be buying it.

FYI
Topaz Mask AI works as plug in ONLY with PS. If you work with LR you need to use the stand alone option.

The best way to evaluate it is to download the trial and try it for yourself. It is easy to use and as for usefulness, it depends on what type of processing you want or plan to do. It isn't directly comparable to Photoshop since it isn't an all-inclusive editor, it can be used as a standalone and also as a plugin for Photoshop. It works well as a masking aid along with an editing program.
