Five years ago, we wanted to adopt a dog for emotional support. We went to North Shore Animal League. We found this tiny, malnourished dog. Bentley was all white and had a pink nose. We thought he was Albino. A few months later, he was developing a black spot. It wasn’t on his back but on his belly. We took him to the vet to learn that he is a Labrador/Dalmatian mix. We have rearranged our lifestyles and our home for the comfort of our dog.
When I saw the commercial on the television late at night, Bentley was laying on the couch next to me with his head in my lap. On the show they depicted dog and cats that were abused, shivering in the cold and tied up with chains. I started to cry because I felt so bad for them. Bentley put his paw on my arm and licked my tears. I can’t imagine someone abusing a dog or cat.
When the aliens come down to Earth, they will judge us by how we treat animals.
