Sunday ride out took us to nearby Durham City and its Cathedral and Finchale Priory. The Priory was founded in 1196, and served as a holiday retreat for the monks of nearby Durham Cathedral, it was 'suppressed' in 1538 by Henry V111, and left in ruins (as were hundreds of other beautiful Abbey's and Priories). I was surprised at how big the site was, it must have been a stunning place before its ruination. Its worthwhile Googling Durham Cathedral and its history.

Good pics - thanks for the tour. Henry V111 was a truly wicked person.

He certainly was Delderby. Those Abbots and Monks who opposed him were 'Strung' up.

Quite a "fixer-upper" you got there. When do you move in?

Ha Ha. More to the point cameraf4...would I like to move in! I think it would be a multi million pound rescue job there. Thanks for looking and comment.
