After almost two weeks of trying, I was finally able to get a picture of a hummingbird. I tip my hat to my fellow UHHer's who make better pictures of these subjects on a regular basis. I was beginning to think I'd just give it up and move on.
The real trick is to get them to stick around long enough to sign the photo release form...
I planted some canna bulbs in my yard, The plant has large red flowers on them and the humming birds are regular visitors. There are numerous varieties. Mine are tallish and red with large green leaves. some are winter hardy some aren't. But when I did them up in the fall I always end up with more than I started.

Very good! Now the next trick is to take the "training wheels" off and keep the feeder out of sight and shoot burst mode when the hummer approaches the nectar and hesitates while looking around before he scoops in to get a drink. Get an angle on him that cuts the feeder out or better yet, try to shoot them around some flowers. Don't have any flowers, plant some for next year.
