I prefer the old - but I realise the necessity of the new.

Thanks for looking in Delderby.

Judging by his expression, I don't think he's too happy with the new look!

He wasn't right that minute. We had just gotten home after a two hour groom session and he was still stressed a little. A short time later he was all piss and vinegar and seems to be much happier with the puppy cut.

Baxter is an Awesome looking Yorkie! Apparently not happy with his summer cut ("I'm not gonna' look at you no moe'...unless there are treats involved")!?!

Thanks yorkiebyte. Like I said above, after he had been home an hour or so he was back to his normal rambunctious self. The little guy just turned three so he's at the peak of health and energy. I don't know how old they have to be before becoming couch potatoes.

Like Robert said...he doesn't look too happy in the "new model" pic! Those eyes speak volumes!

Haha. What I see in his eyes in the first pic is "please help me". In the second pic; "damn, glad that's over".

But, but, I think, Baxter looked better as a fluff ball, such a cute pup, Jack.

Thanks Earnie. It was getting very hard to keep him clean, and the hair was so long we couldn't even see his neck tags that we put on him before walks.

Looks like Baxter got a summer hair (fur) cut.

Thanks samantha. Yes, and it will also be his fall, winter and spring cut. Surprisingly (to me as least), he isn't bothered by the cold and snow like I thought little dogs were supposed to be. He hates the summer heat tho and is always looking for cool grass in the shade to lie down in. Another reason for keeping him in short hair.

Looks like our dog. He's due for his haircut this weekend.

As noted previously, he just got home from a two hour grooming session and was still stressed a little. He was back to his normal piss and vinegar level not too long after. He's a happier dog with the short haircut.

Good luck with your dog. If you check the first pic carefully, you will notice that the red harness is nearly invisible, covered in hair. His necklace (not on in this pic) was nearly invisible also when on. He needed the haircut desperately.

I don't think he looks all that unhappy in the after pic. Maybe a little tired, processing the experience of a new groomer etc. I also think his haircut looks very practical and will save you money. He'll definitely stay cooler. As a groomer I'll admit I tire of people commenting on how awful and stressful grooming must be for dogs. They can and do learn to accept it, even enjoy it. We have clients whose dogs drag their owners into our shop (or used to; people aren't allowed to come in now). Sometimes we just open the door and the owner lets go of the leash so that the dog doesn't pull them down running into the shop. Perhaps they're just bored at home...

That's very interesting given your perspective. Thanks for commenting. I can only speak to my little Yorkie. We've never had a groomer who allowed the owners in the room during the groom. They always say he behaved well, but I'm sure they would say that even if he threw a fit (which I don't think he ever would). But being a pretty high strung Yorkie my guess is he tolerates it while not quite enjoying it. And I think two hours is longer than it should be. All our previous groomers took an hour or less. I could easily see how some dogs, such as Labs, would enjoy it much more than my Yorkie.

I think a lot of terrier-type dogs are adverse to being handled all over as they are during a groom. Their high energy level makes it tough for them to be still; they're just ON all the time. We routinely keep dogs for longer than two hours but that's because we do a lot of dogs in a day. A lot of them snooze away the time during their breaks from the table. Yorkies, not so much!
