I just removed all of the crash reports for Thunderbird (few) and Firefox (lots).
So far so good.....

At the risk of sounding stupid, what are "crash reports" and where does Firefox store them?

Crash reports are generated when there is an abnormal termination of the program, including "hanging".
For some reason my laptop has many, desktop, basically none.

On my system the crash reports are stored in:
C:\users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports
including sub-directories there: Pending and Submitted.

Unless you have Windows Explorer set to display hidden files & folders, you may not see those directories.

Thunderbird stores them in:
C:\users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Crash Reports

Addendum-
I had 2,500 crash reports since 2012.
I didn't delete LastCrash and submit.log files,
But I did remove lines in submit.log.

FYI - The AppData Roaming directory on my system contains info for the following programs:

(Oddly, the Command Window (DOS) cannot see the AppData directory because it is hidden.)

You can see what crash reports Firefox has generated by putting about:crashes as a URL location.
Give it a moment or three to populate.

Amazing how much stuff is stored in that AppData folder.... I wouldn't be surprised to find my wine bill in there somewhere!

Back it up.
I'm using Thunderbird for mail and the mail is stored in /users/[me]/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/profiles/[profile name]/mail

Every so often I save the profile as Mail Backup [date] so I have a record of all my mail. One of the folders in the mail folder is pop.[me] and it contains the inbox, sent, any archived stuff, trash, and drafts. Those are all monster text files containing your mail.

I can't speak for other mail programs so I don't know where they store your mail.

If your wine bill was emailed to you, it could easily be in there.

Hahaha.
It very well could be.

MANY programs (applications) store user specific data there!
It's the best way to keep program profiles/setups that are unique to a user separate.
I believe there is also info under user "public" that would be common to every user on the system.
MOST home computers only have one user set up.
When the kids were at home, I had two(+) users set up, kept the kids out of my stuff...
I could set what other user directories they could see.

Some software when being installed asks if it is for use by one user or everyone.
