Many, many great aircraft and crews served America throughout history. It's just that the Huey is pretty much in a class by itself for preforming missions in direct combat situations down in the trenches so to speak.

We were leaving a pickup zone one day, low level . We took a round on the aircraft commanders side, he wasn't able to gain much forward speed. We landed at the nearest secure area, shut down and the AC got out tilted his seat forward so he could check the collective control and throttle tube. The round had gone through the tube and was twisted.
We finished our return on another chopper, a CH 54 flying Crane retrieved the Huey.
