Anyone here ever been to Pymatuning Spillway/Dam and Reservoir. It is advertised as where "ducks walk on fish's backs." My wife and I went there last week for a day out of the house, neither of us had been there since we were kids (both now 73).
It is out of the way along the Pennsylvania-Ohio border and is the second largest state park in PA and follows the path of the Shenango River. Back in the 1930s it was a bog where very large onions were grown. After some severe flooding, it was decided to build a flood control dam. The reservoir is the result. There are two levels to the lake, the upper level (only about two feet higher) results from a spillway built in the upper regions of the river. People began gathering there and feeding the fish which resulted in a huge increase in the fish population, mostly carp. Other species also abound. Fishing is not permitted in the upper section but is in the larger lower portion. Species include Carp, Crappie, Bass, Musky and even some Walleye.
I've included some photos of the fish (and birds; gulls, Canadian geese, ducks that frequent the area). I read that occasionally there may even be an eagle or two.
Beautiful and informative post, thanks for sharing!
