Wow! Only 2 weeks! I didn't know that, Merry, and I also didn't know we had a state butterfly! I learned something from your post, and I also enjoyed your super gorgeous shots of the yellow fellow!!

it sounded awfully short but that's what my googler said...lol. now that you know that pretty swallowtail is your state butterfly you will be looking for some to shoot...they are easy to spot because of their size and colors.
i'm glad you enjoyed the shots , donna...that's about all i'm seeing around here lately ...butterflies and more butterflies. i hope you are doing good and staying safe.

Wild and wonderful! He is a beauty, Merry!

thank you for your wild and wonderful comment, carol! there are so many of them...i
read that some of their host plants are trees, and one of them is the tulip tree, and we
have a big one in the back yard.

He is a beauty merry, lovely shots too. Enjoyed the information, but such a shame they have a short life.

I chase them near
I chase them far
(I wish that I could drive a car)

I'm sure they would be good to eat
But all I have is
Little feet...!!

good one thanks for the laugh!

your little feets can climb a tree
perhaps an apple you will see
and you can eat it core and all...
and don't do tricks or you might fall!!

time is precious, don't be wasty...
a butterfly would not be tasty.
you would choke and spit it out
and wish for an apple there's no doubt!

male eastern tiger swallowtails are always yellow.
females can be yellow too, with a splash of blue on their tails.
females can also be a darker color..enjoy them while you can...
their life span is only 2 weeks. they are spectacular!

they are the state butterfly of alabama, georgia, south carolina, and delaware.

MT, I agree with you as to thier beauty and take many photos of them. I did not know thier lifespan was so short.
