The Spectacular Scenery And Wildflowers Of Tony Grove Lake

Tony Grove Lake (TGL) lies at 8048' six miles up a spur road off the Logan Canyon Scenic Byway. Supposedly, TGL got its name from its popularity with the wealthy ("tony") residents of Logan who would spend the summers here in 19th and early 20th centuries enjoying the cooler climes. TGL is located in the 45,000 acre "Mt. Naomi Wilderness Area" which lies just south of Bear Lake and the Idaho border.
"This region embraces some of the most rugged and spectacular country in the Bear River Range. The area around this glacial lake explodes into wildflowers in the early summer"...per Wikipedia. We make several trips here every summer to picnic and enjoy the scenery. Part of the day is spent walking the trail around the lake and photographing the splendor of this area. Colorful wildflowers and butterflies were profuse on this visit. As a bonus to these trips, we ride over to Garden City on the Bear Lake to enjoy a fresh raspberry shake!! On this trip, after our shake, we looped over the scenic 10,000' Monter Cristo Pass and on to Huntsville, Utah. Huntsville is home to the oldest, continuously operating bar in Utah. And they serve terrific cheeseburgers!
We arrived home 11 hours and 312 miles later with a tired puppy on mom's lap. Photo's of Lilly will be in part 2 will be posted next. A great day trip! BTW, all photos taken with my Sony RX10 M4...a great pocket camera.
