Tragedy at the beach, but life goes on.

sb Loc: Florida's East Coast

This week's tropical storm washed out a large percentage of the tens of thousands of sea turtle nests that dot the beaches or Brevard and Indian River Counties in Southeast Florida. And hatchlings that beat the storm may have drowned in the rough seas. The good news is that there are still nests left - those that are a little higher than the rough surf reached, and there are even some new nests. Life goes on. It was a beautiful morning today on the beach.

It's a shame about the turtles. I'm glad that some made it.

Nice story photo series. Sheer #s of eggs have kept them going for many years. Volunteers helping guard nests is helping too. Other nation's people still raid the nests and collect and sell the eggs by the burlap sackful.

Great captures and story. Mother nature usually wins. Sometimes turtles do, too.
