Canon EOS R5 interval timer won't work

I just got my R5 and was checking the interval timer for use next week for the Perseid Meteor shower. I can't get it to work. My EOS 5D mark IV works fine. I've found one discussion of the same problem of Canon Rumors, but no solution. Has anyone else had this problem? Have you found a solution?

Why call Apple about a Canon problem?

Well, Apple world headquarters is in Palo Alto, California... while Canon USA's headquarters is just 10 or 15 miles down the road in N. San Jose. So maybe the tech person at Apple can hop an Uber over to Canon to get an answer to the questions, then get back in the car, return to the office and call you back?

I don't have an R5, so can't say from experience. The first thing I'd check is if I were using it properly. That site previously mentioned looks like a good source of info:

With a quick read of that web site, it sounds as if there are quite a few limitations with the built-in R5 interval timer (maybe future firmware updates will change that, if Canon gets a lot of user requests for improvements).

However, I see the R5 has Canon's "N3" connection, allowing use of external remote switches and intervalometers. Canon's TC-80N3 intrevalometer is pricey at around $136, but there are third party clones that cost far less (I bought a lightly used copy of the Canon OEM for less than 1/3 the price of new). If you search eBay for "Canon TC-80N3" you'll find both the OEM and the much less expensive clones. Note: Be careful though... there is also a similarly named RS-80N3, which is only a remote switch... it doesn't have means of setting time lapse intervals. These often comes up in searches for the TC-80N3.

I tried mine in Av, Tv, and M modes, shooting RAW + JPG L, worked fine for me. What problem exactly are you encountering?

An external intervalometer works fine. But the internal one should also work. I've tried resetting the camera to factory defaults and checked all the limitations. None of this solves the problem, so I'll call Canon on Monday. Their web site is down (they were hacked for a ransom).
