If it's too smooth, the lens will creep out if it's pointed down when it's on a sling or neck strap.

I have the same lens and at first it was a bit too stiff, but it is much better after use.

My friend in Omaha would use a jhammer, but he uses a hammer on everything. That is just the way that lens works.

That lens just happens to be stiff. That has been noted often in the reviews. It may loosen up a little over time.

My Tamron 18-200 was stiff at first but loosened after use. But no lens creep after seven years.
