I saw Tony and his daughter perform when he was 90. He was amazing - even did a soft shoe! Go Tony!!
I remember his first hits, "Because of You" and "I Won't Cry Anymore" from my early teens.
He has brought the world many years of joyous singing. Thank you TONY!

I happened to see Mr Tony Bennett at the Museum Of The Moving Image in Astoria Queens. The concert promoters did not want photographs. I snapped on my largest lens, no flash and went to work. I didn’t post the photos and have kept them hidden.

Mr Bennett is a consummate performer and his voice is timeless.

Hello again Mark,

Although I was a child (musically) of the 60's I will never forget Americas' greats. I really don't care about a tracks' tempo, rhythm or time signature as long as a "MELODY" is present. That's the magical ingredient. You see it anywhere there is great music. From Sinatra to Basie to The Beatles to Antonio Bennedetto. From a march to a disco styling (seriously!) - it's simply there. Thanks Mark for another terrific look at our musical history.

My father met Tony Bennett at Floyd Bennett air field after the war, at I believe a benefit. He introduced Tony to his Uncle who was head of the Jukebox distributors of America. My Uncle liked him so much that he had all the Jukebox distributors put his records in all of the jukeboxes. This was a major start to his career. My parents even got to watch him perform from the stage in the 1960’s.

Thanks Mark, terrific choice. Years ago, I ran into him at Umbria Jazz, where his daughter was performing. It told him that when my daughter was born and we brought her home, the first thing I played for her was “A Child is Born,” from the wonderful album he did with Bill Evans. Our daughters were with us, they looked at each other and smiled, and Tony was so visibly touched, I thought he was going to cry. He just whispered, “Thank you,” and walked away. Now the funny story: Years after that, my next door neighbor, who worked for Tony, was having a party and asked were using our oven to cook for the party. Getting ready for the party, I had just gotten out of the shower, and heard somebody moving around in the kitchen. As I was home alone, grabbed a big metal flashlight as a weapon and dripping wet, wrapped in a towel headed into the kitchen. And there’s Tony Bennet, bent over, head in the oven, basting a turkey.
