Nice shot. I really like train photos. Without blowing the photo up so much I lost resolution, I could count over 20-25 cars and there were many, many, times that. At least 200 I bet.
According to Wikipedia "The record-breaking ore train from the same company, 682 cars and 7,300 m long, once carried 82,000 metric tons of ore for a total weight of the train, largest in the world, of 99,734 tonnes. It was driven by eight locomotives distributed along its length to keep the coupling loads and curve performance controllable." So yeah, a couple of hundred for sure. Great job.
Very nice picture. All the cars must have none in them. Logo on engine is Canadian Pacific . One of the great railroads of the world.

That's one special boxcar. :)
Very nice...I'd hate to be waiting at a RR Crossing!!

Like a long train - but the longest train foggypreacher refers to is Australian, not Canadian Pacific. I looked it up once when I saw a UK train which I thought was long. (haha!)

Beautiful image! Curious -- were there any engines on the other end of the train? Seems unusual for one engine pulling a long train.
The boxcar is required between the locomotive and tank cars on an oil train like this one. I'm guessing this is the tail of the train since there is only one locomotive (DPU).

That's interesting. I guess it gives a bit of crumple zone before the tankers smash everything. I wonder if that rule applies in the states too? [boring] I had an uncle who was an engineer, not sure what line but he lived in mid-Missouri just off I-70. When I was 8-9 he took me to work with him and I got to ride and drive a locomotive on the switching yard. BIG stuff at that age. That was about 55 years ago so things like which road line are gone.
