Services from USPS, UPS, and Fed-Ex have really gone down hill. I understand they all handle a huge amount of packages, and some items will get lost or damaged. But, they have become less and less reliable.
A year and a half ago FedEx lost a very expensive camera, luckily Canon replaced it with a new on. They also delivered a 6’ custom window shade that was bent like a boomerang! One would think if it was damaged before
being loaded someone would have reported it. On the other hand, if it was damaged while on the truck, the driver not have left it causing me a big headache trying to get a replacement, which thankfully after 6 weeks I got the replacement.
UPS, has also lost and damaged a few packages too.
USPS, from my experience is the worse. They have lost and mis-delivered more packages than the other two combined. Training to contact any of them is impossible.
My newest dilemma is with USPS, and UPS Innovations. 3 weeks ago I purchased 2 expensive item, the seller who 95 miles away, shipped them the next day. The item took 4 days to get to a location 65 miles south of me.
And there they sat. Tracking says it left there 2 weeks ago, and that’s it.
I was actually lucky to contact the USPS where the packages were last at. The representative told me it’s out of their hands, and in the possession of UPS Innovations, and to contact them. I could reach them, and their website doesn’t recognize my USPS tracking number, but yet the PO does. The seller will either replace the items, or give me a refund.
It’s been a very frustrating experience, and if the top three delivery services make contacting impossible, then who else can you rely on.
Thanks for letting me rant, and take care of yourselves.

The alternative is to deal locally so now shipping?

It is the best option, and I have, but not all my purchase are found locally, or as cheap as other sellers.
Thanks

When I've ordered any camera related or my Mobile phone from Samsung I had to sign for it, usually FedEX. That's when you could refuse delivery if the package is obviously damaged. I have had a couple things damaged, like a Weber BBQ Grill I ordered, delivered by UPS. The company (Weber) made good on the damaged parts and sent new ones.
Like the previous commentator stated, Trade-offs. Overall I've been pretty lucky.

I've had the treatment from UPS. My wife was expecting a package, tracking said it was out for delivery. We live at the end of a road. The UPS driver turned around using our driveway to do so and took off. I ran after him, flagged him down and told him I want my package. He said, "Oh yah." and gave me my package. It's no wonder UPS is have problems when they hire drivers with an IQ of 70. We just buy less and save money. We can't go to the local store just to shop because my wife have health problems. Maybe the local clothing stores will start a delivery service of their own like the pharmacies. That would be nice.

Two weeks ago I ordered something from a seller in Maryland because I could not get it locally.
Tracking showed USPS was doing great until Indianapolis - then it got lost for a few days.
Ultimately I did get it - but it arrived here five days after arriving in Indianapolis.
I can drive to Indianapolis in four hours.
Purchase locally unless you can wait.

Why did you not drive the 95 miles to get the items? Make it day trip. I had and have no problem with the USPS. If I not home I known that the package is safe within the post office until I can pick it up.

Some sellers don’t have a store, and don’t want people going to them. Free shipping beats driving 190 miles.
I live in a rural community, and never had anything stolen from my front door. Driving through NY, the Bronx, and the 95 corridor is not a day trip.

Ok, I did not known you had to cut across New York City. By the way at one time I live in New York City, now I live in very rural part of New York State.

It isn't just couriers that make contacting difficult. I am having difficulty getting another Dell 32" monitor (damaged by a stray cat). It took 2 weeks to get the insurance company to accept that it was actually faulty. The guy they sent round said why am I here after he saw it. I said because they cannot accept the photo I sent (they thought it might be repairable). Then the replacement does not go to Dell but the insurance companies favourite dealer who then go to Dell. Since my wife answered the phone somewhere in here she has ended up being the contact person which caused problems (sorted that now). So as far as I know everything was ordered (with a 6 week delivery time) 2 weeks ago. Then I get another call from the dealer that looked as if nothing had happened yet (I suspect they are using an Indian call center). Still to sort this since we got involved in the contact person debacle. Hopefully tomorrow to sort this. During all this time had no contact except by phone - no email confirmations. 4 weeks into it and still not sure anything is proceeding.
Bring back paper and common sense !! Said cat is still waiting to make friends with my boot.

Must be the work ethic in your neck of the woods. Nothing but 1st class service from all three on my street.
