I'm considering submitting one of these to my EAA Sport Aviation magazine editorial dept. Every month they post one full-page image from among the people who sent in pics. I was chosen as their 2012 e-edition desktop June calendar page. It would be cool to actually have something on paper. Of the thousands of pics I take at Oshkosh every year, a few are bound to come out usable :) I processed these in PSE 18, with mostly upping the exposure and a little sharpening. Spot metering, shutter priority (1/1600).

You should revisit the noise processing.

A because the pilot is more visible.

On which one? Both of them? The originals were quite dark and shot in JPG rather than in RAW, which I only occasionally experiment with. I could pick another subject that doesn't require as much work. I started with auto-enhance and then went form there.

Thanks...I'm kinda leaning that way, myself. I was going to try to move the plane closer to the clouds, but I couldn't remember how to work the re-compose button (only did it once to move a B-1 closer to a B-2 and a B-52, all flying in formation a few years back).

I would vote for B. Shows a great side view of the plane plus you can see the pilot. As a photo judge I would pick B for many positive attributes

Overall I prefer A, with the plane separated from most clouds. I like the color of the plane better in B, but I'm not sure which is most accurate. In both the shaded areas seem to make quite a bit of noise.

Definitely A, but why the weird cloud color? Distracting to me.

A. Almost a 3/4 view of the A-10 and you can clearly see the pilot. Also, like the composition with the clouds just below.

Not quite sure about the cloud color. It might have been that I was panning and took multiple images of the plane (30 during that part of the performance). I think the sun was just at a certain angle that caused the coloration, ala the golden hour. Both pics were taken at 1736 (5:36 PM). I agree about the shadow areas being noisy mentioned a post or two earlier. I might change it back or lessen the effect (lighten shadows). the last pic I took that evening was at 1813. I only processed A last night, but I like that there's not the sun flare hitting the cockpit. The pilot is slightly more visible. Only the maker's opinion. Other than being cancelled this year, there are 7 afternoon airshows and 2 evening airshows - Wednesday and Saturday - during the week-long convention. I've probably gone 8-10 times (maybe more) but I've never counted. When I had spare money and fewer health issues I rented and flew small single-engine prop planes. My older brother is a partial owner of a Cessna 182.

If I could figure out how to add clouds (I know I could watch something on You-Tube) I might choose something completely different, like and F-35 or a Mustang, or.... I have plenty of pics I can look through where there's not a cloud in the sky. Someday I ought to go through my files and throw out about 90%, but I keep thinking to myself "maybe I can fix that". PS seems like almost every time I open a RAW file in Photos (Win 10 native program) if I do anything even like using the magnifying glass and moving it around, when I try to exit to the grid view the program just shuts down and I have to pull it up again. If I want to work on a RAW file I open it up in PSE 18. Anyone else have that problem or can you tell me how to set it up where I don't have to use Photos at all? When I download a memory card everything goes into Photos. Can I change it to Organizer (which I haven't used or have only tried once)?
