Apple TV

Am I missing something with Apple TV? I signed up so I could watch the Tom Hanks WW II movie. I went through the list of movies available from Apple, and I clicked on about a dozen. When I tried to watch one, it told me that I had to buy/rent it through my phone. I went back to the list of movies, and every one has two boxes to click: "Add to List" and "How to Watch." the "How to Watch" tells me I have to pay to watch it. They charge $5.00/mo. Doesn't that cover anything?

I also signed up with Disney+, and that includes National Geographic. That has some excellent exploration shows. I'll cancel in a couple of days before it renews because everything else is for kids. If you have little kids in the house, Disney+ would be fantastic.

I have an Apple TV box too. I gave up on their service because of the extra costs anytime anything interesting was on. Only thing I use it for now is casting photos and videos to the tv from my iPad or IMac.

Thanks. So I guess I'm not using it incorrectly. I'll have to watch that Tom Hanks movie today.

I use a Roku device (not their service) for streaming because it has a better interface including voice. My Apple TV is only used for mirroring my iPad/iPhone. Up until 3 years ago, we lived in southern AZ and I didn’t subscribe to any cable tv service (antenna only) but we are now in a community where cable is a mandatory “option” in the POA fee.

From the Apple TV app, click on Apple TV+. That is where you will find the extra content you get by paying for the subscription.

I have Roku and Amazon Fire. When one gives me trouble, I switch to the other. Apple and Disney had things we wanted to watch. Disney is free for a month, but Apple made me pay for another month after a week of use.

We signed up watched Tom Hanks movie and immediately deregistered. It seems the months fee is just so you can have the privilege of paying more. We use AT&T on-line and subscribe to BritBox and have access to Amazon Prime. All we need here. Local TV stations come in (In HD) over the air.

I believe they have a short free trial period for AppleTV+. I have a year free due to recent purchase of an iPad for doing face time with our sons and grandsons. The free movies are limited even for the free subscription I have. I probably will not keep it after the free year finishes.

It's a disapointingly boring movie. Unconvincing CGI, a surfeit of technical naval talk. I bought an Apple watch last year so Apple told me I get Apple TV free for a year. I can't find anything I want to watch on Apple TV. I had hopes for Greyhound, but my hopes were dashed. I really like WWII movies, but this one is a fail.

Apple TV up samples many of the shows and movies on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and the ones you buy from Apple. Most TVs use 720p, Apple TV goes to 1080p. You can see the difference on the right TVs.
Apple TV+ is their streaming service. I like their offerings,so I’m going to keep it.
Have any of you seen the new Perry Mason? I like it a lot-HBO

I have Apple TV 4k 64GB. So it goes higher than 1080p. I've been watching Perry Mason on HBO Go. It's kind of corny, but I guess that's because it's set in the good old days.

Apple upscales some HD movies to 4k. Shows that are in 780p on most platforms, are up scaled to 1080p on apple tv

Yes, free for a week. I didn't watch the movie, so I paid $5.00 for a month.

Sorry to hear that. Tom Hanks did say that there's a difference between a theater movie and one made for streaming - and it's not a good difference.
