You set your sights pretty lofty when most people talk they have trouble keeping track of where 'I' and 'me' goes or say something like ' me and my friends are going out tonight.' As a retired elementary teacher I wonder where they missed the boat. Every time I hear it, it just astounds me how the teachers have done so poorly on teaching proper English language.

Answer is simple ... they had poor teacher too. Serious shame that our youth is so poorly educated now.

The school system in North Carolina only teaches students what they need to pass the tests that rank the state among other states. It's very sad to see how uneducated even college graduates are today. Grammar and spelling are subjects of the past.

Generally speaking, it isn’t the teachers; it’s the “students” who don’t care because they think they already know everything. As a former English teacher at both the secondary and collegiate levels, I am continually amused by those here on UHH who incorrectly correct other folks. Since I am off duty now, I generally just cringe and move on. Sometimes, though, I can’t help myself. That’s when the old red pen comes out.

There are plenty of older people here who are severely grammar and spelling challenged.

One of my pet peeves is “teachers who use poor grammar” regardless of the subject they teach. Maybe these are the same teachers who’ve done a poor job teaching.😳
