At this time of year the birds have now raised a clutch of kids and have more leisure time for their personal grooming hygiene. This bird flew in on the pond bank late afternoon and began going through his preening routine. I moved in as close as I dared with tripod and gimbal and began snapping away with Canon 6D Mk II and Sigma 150-600 @ 600mm.
I came up with a relatively high number of keepers and would like to submit one of these for our local camera club competition for August. Would you take a look at the downloads and help me choose one of them?
Good shots all. I wouldn't delete any of them but I favor the second shot. It has to do with the eye and also the background.
I find White birds in the sun to be extremely difficult - you did an excellent job across the series. All the exposures are very good, but 4 and 5 appear to be without a trace of detail blowout. I would consider one of the two. Really fine job.

Six Great Snowy Egret images having a Really Bad Hair Day.Sharp and good composition. I would go with number 4 because of the water background and position of the head. Number 4 is your winner.
Good work on white birds! Well you know that the lockdown has curtailed hair dresser visits (LOL).
An outstanding set, Hereford. Sharp and well-composed.
Great pictures, detail and exposures. I think you ran over and "ruffled his feathers" between shots.

In the context of a bad hair day #5 is an obvious choice! All great shots.

Great set...No 5 would be my choice!!
I like the way #1 and #4 show the neck. Would say #4 with the bluish background. Wonderful shots. I too have a hard time with white birds blowing out in the sun.
