Improve my photo

Can anyone help me this photo? I have manipulated it to make it acceptable, but how should I have set up my camera to improve the photo. It was taken against light, which I could not avoid. The settings were F10/500sec/FL14mm. If I was able to go back there I probably use AEB and HDR.
Thanks for any guidance, John Eccles

When shooting against the sunlight, use spot metering.
It is easier to manipulate a raw photo than a thumbnail.

Try lightening it in Photoshop, or Gimp

Post it again and click (store original). Then members can work their magic on it.

There's a lot you can do with that picture, especially if you have the RAW or original JPG file.

I brought out the detail in the shadows. Then, since hidden in the shadows were some people directly in front of the doohickey, I cloned them out of there.

This all took about 2½ minutes in Photoshop CS6.

If I were working on my own picture, I would probably clone out some of the cars at the left side.

John I also did post work on it and it comes out pretty good for detail. I liked russelrays cloning out the people.
