is the zennia.

they work where you need brilliant colors
they work as cut flowers
they work fast
they attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds
they shade out weeds
they are low maintenance
they work year after year.

but drat...the deer eat them for dessert so mine are on the deck.

And marigolds are both oldies but goodies.
As a child, I remember the large flocks of Goldfinches in our garden.
Dad had a couple hundred square feet of both to sell for cut flowers.
Finches ruin them by eating the seeds.
He had many names for Goidfinches, most unfit for print here.

our goldfinches eat the petals of the zennias, mexican sunflowers, black and blue salvia,
and brown eyed susans. drives me crazy. i like marigolds too...the butterflies love them
and the deer won't touch them. i have 3 big pots of them in front of the porch.

Try a taste of Marigold.
Spit, do not swallow.
See why deer shun them?

And...they bring on those wonderful dreams of bygone days of summer. Bees buzzing, butterflies fluttering, daisy petals, clover chains and Mama's zinnias. Life was simple, and if I don't stop here I'll start boo-hooing all over my keyboard! 😢 Seriously, your zinnias are lovely, Merry, and my memories of them are very happy ones!! 😊😊

And did anyone ever find the effect of gamma radiation on man in the moon marigolds?

you'll get me to boohooing too, so we can just have a big old boohoo duet, donna.
i've always loved zennias, and i'm glad you have too...how could anyone have an unhappy
memory of zennias? life was simple back then...it's just mind boggling how it has changed
so much. i'm glad you enjoyed my deck zennias donna and thanks so much for your comment!
