Next week I will be visiting family near Casper for a few days. What would you reccomend I see/photograph within 100 miles of there?
Also is it worth trout fishing in the Alcova reservoir?
Thanks in advance

This is outside your 100-mile limit, but when I was last to Casper, I made the drive to Devil's Tower. I was there in October so leaving really early still got me to the tower just before dawn at the end of the 3ish hour drive. You can walk the entire circuit around the base in about an hour or so and see the museum. If you're not going to be back to the area, this is well worth the day and drive. Drive off in all directions on the county roads and get different long-distance perspectives. There's a huge prairie dog colony within the monument property if they're out and active.

I suggest visiting Old Fort Caspar (yes, spelling is correct - there is a story about that). Also Casper Mountain has some beautiful vistas if you are into landscapes. You might also want to visit Independence Rock which is on Hwy 220 about 60 miles from Casper. You can't get close enough to the rock to touch it thanks to thoughtless idiotic vandals but it is interesting nevertheless and some good photography opportunities. I never had much luck fishing in Alcova but I know there are trout in it. You need a boat to do any good there.
The Immigrant trail runs through Casper and is not too difficult to find. In dry weather it is navigable with any crossover/suv. If it has rained or might rain do not attempt it unless you want to spend the night on the trail. You might go to the National Historic Trails Center in Casper if it has reopened for more info. The run from paved road to paved road is about 1-1/2 hours ( I would say 30mi). Lots of things to see and photograph on this section of the trail and Prospect Hill alone is worth the trip (see attached photo). After getting to the first paved road the Trail crosses (rt 220) Independence Rock is just a few minutes down the road to the west. Being that close to this site and not seeing it would be a crime in my opinion. If you are interested The Mormon Museum is another few miles up the road. You can then take rt 220 back to Casper, it is good paved road.
Just doing the trail is worthwhile but it is also a photographer's dream in my opinion. If you want to learn more about the history of the places you can visit I recommend this site. I would add another level of enjoyment to what you see.(

Any place you can, "wet a line" is worth fishing. Make sure you have a license.

AYERS NATURAL BRIDGE Down toward Douglas is very nice. The river runs under the rock bridge. Lots of red rock. Take a lunch.
