I saw this cartoon last night, and I planned to post it today. Then I saw the "Acronyms" post, and this fits in perfectly.

There must be a separate division of NASA that makes up acronyms for their projects. This "Sherloc and Watson" is a good example - a robot being sent to Mars to look for evidence (of life). (Yes, it is "Sherloc.")

What i'm worried about is the proliferation of;

Always Self Serving Humanoid Organic Lifeforms (on) Earths Surface.

which are actually;

Hard Entropic Alien Robot Totally Lost Emotion (for) Social Service - Including Natural Destructive Intent Violent Immoral Delusive Uncooperative Action (and) Language.

The summer of 1990 I was in KSA, at KKMC, living in a K-SPAN, AS NCOIC is TSL COSCOM, assigned to 948th HMSC.

Where was I and what was I doing

I love Brewster's comics ... I'm not too sure about that one eyed guy.

I'd bet there is an entire government agency devoted to this activity. They also come up with the acronyms for new pieces of legislation.

Schoee, you are close but have the dates wrong. I was there after the war cleaning up the equipment left behind after the troops came home.

When I went to work for the Resolution Trust Corporation (a quasi-governmental agency like the FDIC) in 1993, I was handed a booklet of acronym definitions.

But you said summer of 1990, so I assume northern hemisphere summer which is June-Sep 1990. The Gulf War started properly in Jan 1991 and ended with cease fire on 28 Feb 1991. Maybe you were there in summer 1991?

In his book, "Failure is not an Option," Gene Krantz said one of the hardest things a newly-hired spaceflight engineer had to learn, was the vast array of acronyms they used, rapid fire, in conversations. NASA has 8,940 of them:

https://www.acronymslist.com/cat/nasa-acronyms.html

In the moon race days, time was so critical Krantz said they simply couldn't take the time to speak the full name of most of the hardware. It's far easier to ask "Is the COMAS is fully integrated into the ANARS?" rather than "Is the Combined Orbital Maneuvering and Abort System fully integrated with the Autonomous Navigation and Attitude Reference System?"
