It's probably rare to find an acronym with only one meaning, given the current proliferation.

Every profession, hobby, craft, business, has its share of slang, lingo, acronyms, abbreviations, buzz words, and codes. Some are handy and useful in writing and teaching, some of it is excessive, sometimes I suspect it is a form of exclusion and snobbery, but much of it is valid and necessary.

Especially when it comes to teaching, mentoring, helping newcomers to the craft, and instructing I prefer" PLAIN TALK". I am old enough to remember when "legalese" included Latin terminology, making contracts, leases, and other consumer documents difficult to understand. Fortunately, that is no longer the case.

My favorite acronym is KISS- Keep It Simple (I can do nicely without the "S" for stupid).

Re. Google: I too love Mr. Google (any relation to Barney?) Since Googe is my default browser, I can click on anything as I am writing and go right to Google Chrome- fast and easy. I usually, however, don't ask folks why they did not Google their questions- even the kinda silly or redundant questions. Just imagine, if everyone did that the might be considerably less traffic here on the forum. There would be no one to mock, admonish, argue with, provide inaccurate and misleading, and/or snarky answers to, ignore, ban or send off to "the Attic"! It might just get too peaceful or even dull around here?

Every endeavor has it's own plethora of acronyms. The field of Medicine is especially full of acronyms. It's much easier to say IHSS than Idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis

And, for most people, it doesn't detract from the meaning of the phrase.

"Phil Belanger, a founding member of the Wi-Fi Alliance who presided over the selection of the name "Wi-Fi", has stated that Interbrand invented Wi-Fi as a pun on the word hi-fi (high fidelity), a term for high-quality audio technology."
