This is a Leaf Mimic which is quite a unique specimen from the collection of Bill (newtoyou) that I posed for a focus stacking session. Its body and limbs have evolved to resemble leaves which provides them with camouflage from predators.

I see a familiar face.
Life in a rose bush beats death in a vial of alcohol anytime, you think?
The green is fading, the eyes LOOK dead.
Funny, on many insects, beetles, for example, the exoskeletons are such that, as you know, they allow arranging in a lifelike position that stays, once dry. And having fixed features and a hard exoskeleton, the ravages death takes on them is inside, hidden.
Much more photogenic to at least LOOK alive.
Some shelf fungus in one of the altered carryout boxes will go out to you this week.
Mark accepted one, too, so we can compair notes.
I am working on a list of insects, mostly beetles, in dried fungi.
Dozens. Will be a bit for one very abbreviated one.
Later, Gary.
Bill

Thanks, Bill. You have been a mentor, provider and most importantly a true friend. Much of what I do now I attribute to your sharing of knowledge and providing me with specimens that I am be able to stage and share with others. The alcohol does take its toll on the softer bodied insects and the lighter colored eyes such as this.

My pleasure.

Fascinating! I've never seen anything quite like this. Seen plenty of leaf-footed bugs, but this is very different.

Thanks, this is an example of what they look like on the hoof.

OK! I'm familiar with these. Didn't get the perspective, or previously, note the details when looking at pictures.
Thank you for giving me this view.
