When I got my new macro lens just before the shutdown to shoot flowers, I quickly found I only wanted to shoot in sunshine so I could get enough light to shoot handheld at a small aperture for maximum DOF. I'm not interested in focus stacking because I don't want to use a tripod. But we have been having lots of overcast days, so it finally occurred to me to try shooting them with a flash. My lens is the Nikon 60mm micro, which has a very close working distance, so I realized that a flash on the hot shoe would be lighting at around a 45 degree angle. I also pulled out the built in diffuser and bounce card, to get a little more light at that angle. Of course, it's top lighting on horizontals and side lighting on verticals, but that seemed to work out fine. I can shoot at f29 or f32 at ISO 800. I still hope for sunshine, but it's nice to still be able to shoot on darker days. I even bring the flash on sunny days for a little fill, or to shoot flowers in the shade.

Thank you, but I don't like to post them large enough to print.

I prefer not to post full sized images which people could print.
