Said to allow easy background change! Was using 14, bought 2020. Same basic laborious background change procedure. Read the new instructions, seems the same as it was in 14. No video lesson on the "new" function.
I fell for it. Value of upgrade? "-$69!" On the whole I'm in the hole LOL. I was born on P.T.Barnum's "minute!"

If you have a compatibility issue with your computer's OS, that would be one reason to upgrade. Or, you've purchased a new camera and you need support for new RAW files. But, PSE is rather mature software and new bells and whistles are limited. You can download a trial version and watch some training / getting-started videos and make your own hands-on decision before purchasing.

This chart starts at version 15 and forward, but lists added features.

For $12.00, try Elements + (file:///C:/Elements+/15.0/help_files/en/index.htm). Also, be sure to have a compatible version of Windows (if you are using this platform); 2020 requires Window 10 if I remember correctly when I looked into upgrading my PSE15 version. After adding Elements +, it does everything I need and more. Take care & ...

I wanted to upgrade my camera from a Nikon D5100 to a D7500. I had Elements 13. It could not read the RAW files from the 7500 so I had to upgrade to PSE2020. AND to do that I had to get Windows 10! Took a bit of a learning curve. PSE2020 is not that much different from PSE13 though you can remove objects quicker and more clearer in 2020.

Haren,
You will notice some very good improvements from vs. 14. The main change, the 'background change' spoken of refers to how easy it is to SELECT your subject in order to put it in a new background, or effect the background after an 'automatic' subject selection. It does a very good job of automatically selecting the main subject, in one easy button press, then if you 'invert' that selection, you can affect the background in any way you please, OR remove the selected subject from the existing background and place them in an entirely new background. They have improved the 'Refine Edge' process somewhat too.
I moved from '15' to 2020 and do not regret it. That's a good price you mentioned too. Go for it!
God Bless,
Papa Joe

I own PSE 15 which I am basically satisfied with. Decided to try to upgrade to PSE 2020 and bought a disk from Best Buy. It wouldn’t allow me to register it. I returned it and the clerk said “oh another one”. He said one guy came back 5 times to try to get a copy he could register and others had the same problem. So I kept my PSE 15.

The chart comparing the versions of PSE is a very good starting point. It and the advice from another poster to download the trial version are both good advice.

I found the comment that PSE 2020 is a mature product and thus implying the current version may not be that much improved over PSE 14 to be somewhat interesting. Photoshop itself is well over 20 years old. I think most people would not want to use one of the early versions.

One other low risk quick idea. Watch PSE 2020 YouTube videos to get a feel for the program. You can do that quickly, and not risk missing the sale price. Moreover, based on history we are over halfway through the product cycle for PSE 2020 and other sales will be coming along. But the $69 price certainly is a good one.

The bottom line are the improvements to the program since PSE 14, features you would use?

FWIW

After hearing from others on UHH re. PSE 20, I've opted to stay with PSE 14. It works for me.

I also tried elements+ and I really like it. For $12 what have you got to lose?

As for Elements 2020, there are many upgrades from Elements 14, If you are happy with 14, there may not be anything in 2020 that you need. For one, it has a better camera raw.
