Comet Neowise from Shenandoah National Park on 7/14. Nikon D850, Nikkor 200-500mm @200mm, ISO3200, f/6.3, 25x4sec stacked using Sequator. These were on a fixed tripod so there is some amount of star trail.

Thanks! I am going for it tonight and wondered what lens choice. I have the 200-500 and will use on my Z6. Some with much higher ISO.
Saw it the last two nights at locations with darker skys, higher elevation, and crystal clear sky. We’ll see what tonight brings.
I could drag out my 40-year-old C8. It will track but probably too much mm.
I tried 200-500 and recommend going with lower focal length. I would try ~120mm or so. At 200mm, the comet filled the frame. There is only the slightest crop in the above picture and that was only to remove some gradient at the bottom.

Very nice shot. I just posted an image taken at 500mm and it came out well but does crop off the tail. I'll probably be trying again at a shorter focal length.

Two other choices for me are the 24-70 Z lens or the AF-P 70-300. Maybe I’ll try the latter first.

I'll probably try my 70-200mm f2.8 next. My plan will be to do few test shots at ISO 32K to adjust to zoom to a point to fill but not over fill the image with the comet.

Let’s compare what we get!
This is a case where the f2.8 rules!
