My vote is the color shot. Depending on what you want to covey, the B&W is the sinister, foreboding thought. The Color is bright, cheerful and happy.

Thanks so much Halftrack. That was exactly my intent.

I usually vote for B&W but in this case I would go for the color version, partly because of the beautiful color in the plants and bushes. Don Z.

Thanks so much Don. That seems to be the overwhelming sentiment.

Thanks for your comments Kathy. The reasons I did the conversion were 1) the contrasts between the clouds and stones,2)to change the mood and 3)to give a sense of the timelessness of an old structure in the middle of an increasingly modern city. Perhaps 6 months ago more people would have preferred the B&W. I think now in these grim times, more need the uplift the color image provides. I appreciate your insight.

You know, you're probably right about our "needing" the colour and its uplifting qualities. Good call. I just think there's a place for both.

St. Augustine's Church is locally known as the “Wee Church on the Walls” and is thought to be the site of the 6th Century monastery in the Doire Calgach area on the east side of the River Foyle near the city walls. According to oral and documented history, the site was granted by a local king. The monastery then remained in the hands of the federation of Columban churches who regarded St. Colmcille as their spiritual mentor. The present building dates from 1872 and is in the design of 13th Century gothic style.

I took this image as we walked on the walls of Derry. I thought it might make a nice B&W because of the great clouds contrasted with the old stones. Which do you prefer?

Like them both.IMHP, while the color brings more details, B+W enhances that mysterious, “noire” mood, created by the stormy sky, and by those tombstones on the foreground.
Excellent work, Mark

Why would anyone want to change Mother Natures beautiful colors of flowers and blossoms to black & white??

Having been there a few times, I can say that the color version “in-person” is the best!!

Thanks, looking forward to it. My grandparents on both sides came from the "Ol Sod." My mothers father was a champion "footballer." I never got any farther than Shannon airport enroute elsewhere.

The B&W is very good, but the color is excellent, so it gets my vote.
