I often see the suggestion “see if you can find a good used copy” referring to lenses, bodies, tripods etc. Would appreciate any and all suggestions as to where are the best places to find good used equipment.

Here's where I've purchased a couple of lenses and a couple of cameras. All good!

Use KEH.com as your reference site, basing comparison prices on the EX and EX+ rated items. Compare also the 10-day no questions asked return policy at KEH as well as their 6-month warranty.

I've had good luck with , https://www.keh.com/ I had one return, just changed my mind, nothing wrong with the lens, and they were happy to refund my money, no argument. Other purchases were as described on the website.

I have very good dealings with mpb.com.
They have good prices on their equipment and are easy to contact if there are any problems.

Roberts Used Photo Pro https://usedphotopro.com/ No enormous difference from B&H or KEH, but the best I've used by a whisker.

I like KEH and Ebay.
Ebay I deal nearly always with Japanese sellers as they have been consistently honest in descriptions.

Agree with your Japanese sellers comment. Well cared for gear. Do try to pick highly rated / free shipping.

KEH's rankings are very accurate and I have only bought the EX and EX+ rankings and every one was in excellent condition. I have never tried one of the BGN grades and don't think I ever will.

I have bought perhaps 5 lenses from Japan on eBay and everyone was in excellent condition.

All of my gear, with the exception a 2 Tamron lenses, has been bought used from either B&H or Adorama. Never had a problem with any of it. My A7RIII was listed as condition 9 on B&H's website. It looked brand new when I received it.

I've had some good luck with used high-end camera equipment from Japanese sellers on Ebay. Obviously, make sure the seller has a good feedback rating. I have found them to be accurate in their descriptions of the equipment.

Almost all of my gear has been purchased used. I agree that B&H, KEH, and Roberts are excellent sources, but there are plenty of bargains on eBay if you know what you're doing. My vehicles all run on used parts, and my photos are all made with used gear (once I take a shot).

There used to be a fellow Hogger by the name of MT Shooter that had a camera store in Billings Montana. Sadly he has retired from the store and I haven't heard from him in a long while. I thought I would just mention him as he was a good guy and knew cameras and photography equipment. If you were a member of this forum he would give you a spectacular deal
