Dear Admin,
I have recently been involved in several threads that started innocently enough in the Chit-Chat section but where then moved to the Attic section.
Justifiably, you try to keep hateful and other trashy commentary out of your forum. So you created the Attic as the site for relocation of such threads.
For you to move a thread to the Attic, you must have some criteria for considering it objectionable. If the thread has reached the threshold of what you consider objectionable, it must be because some posts in the thread, and therefore some posters, have crossed the line.
Is there no way you can control the transgressors without penalizing the whole Chit-Chat community by moving a topic into the Attic?
I very much like UHH. But this issue is frustrating.....

I understand what triggers a move to the Attic. I just find it unfortunate that many have to be penalized for the bad behavior of a few. Can't the "bad apples" be banned from Chit-Chat?

You can always put them on your "ignore" list - (
ignore thread for more info...)

Thanks for the link, Shellback. But that won't stop the Attic residents from destroying a topic....

Well, if they stopped their behavior, threads would not get forced to the Attic.
(What a concept!)
Maybe they enjoy driving certain threads to the Attic....

i have been known to call out "Attic behavior" or "Attic wording" if I see it.
Fortunately, I don't see it very often.
One thing I've noted is that some of the most extreme opinionated post nothing in the photography forums; I'm more interested in the opinions of other photographers, not trolls. I thought that this forum was for photographers from those just beginning to the professionals.

The threads which end up in the Attic tend to be "Chit-Chat" about the Covid-19 virus which wander into political talk. People do complain about the "Chit-Chat" Section ..... but it
is there.

Used to be that trolls lived under bridges.

Originally, the Ignore feature kept people from posting in topics you created. Admin removed that option a couple of years ago. So it's really only good for blocking someone who might be harassing you via private message.
I once put Christ T on Ignore simply so I wouldn't see his five new topics created every day in my "newest topics" list.
For what srt101fan is asking, the Ignore feature is worthless.

Maybe it's time to have a chit-chat section that is volunteer-managed. Speaking of thankless jobs 🤐
Incivility and selfish behavior is rampant here, there and everywhere. It would be a full time job to watch each entry to each thread in each forum Admin manages (main discussion, photo gallery, chit chat, analysis, and a couple of others).
People use the Report Issue button, but probably by the time Admin gets to the topic it's too far gone to simply edit. How many warnings should a person get before they're booted off UHH? You'd need a big spreadsheet to keep track, too. Hopeless.
I'd better delete that one.

Yes. It's so easy to be uncivil, snarky, and just plain nasty when hiding behind a computer.
I so wonder if those people treat their friends the same way, or just people they do not "know".
That is
IF they have friends.....
