Superb capture. Next time try a different EV value?

Tried to send a modification but can't - I'm too new to the sight to know where the 'send a photo' is. Never mind eh? Sure you know what I mean.

Country 330, now I can send the mod'

Photographing the surf, the snow, reflections off a lake etc needs less exposure than the auto will always tell you. Pratice increasing your speed, one, two or even three or four times. Practice until your confidence ensure that when you are about ready to shoot in a hurry, you are prepared and quick of fnger.

Hope it helps.

Ron

Far from good, but an EV adjustment before you take these sorts of shots will make a great big difference.

Your appreciation of such minor mods suggests that you must be one of those very talented, blossoming flowers with a sideline in photography? Does your horse take shots as well?

No doubt you have your ponds of lillies and egrets in tennesee and etc and I suspect, an album or folder full of all things beautiful that I'm sure to come across if I keep looking and experiencing UHH pages?

We'll meet again I'm sure.

Sorry, but the sensor tries to relate to neutral gray when photographing snow. It is necessary to increase exposure to counteract this.

You are right, however, in thinking this bird to be over exposed. It is also blurry- either to incorrect focus or motion. The water is very dark. Some images just don't make it because of lack of tonal range in the camera.

I don't shoot birds in flight because neither me or my equipment is fast enough. Despite my criticism, I respect the capture and know that I would not have done as well.

You stick to increasing exposure and I'll stick to decreasing it. All to their own and EVs into their elevated vacuums.

You are right about the blur though. Yes, it might be the bird's flight pattern or it might have been the lack of accurate panning or, as I suspect based on my limited experience, a bit of both, plus camera shake. Will we ever know though.
We just might have benefitted from a higher resolution on screen as well, but that's just wishful thinking.
Whatever, I just hope that the photographer is behind the screens and busy learning to improve their technique. Don't you? To hell with our opinions, its the original photographer that counts and we look forward to more contributions from them and with luck, they'll be telling us to get on the elevated vacuum express!

Who knows, even another UHH member will learn something as well, if nothing more than how to argue.

Happy and successful shooting (Photographically) to all.

Ron

Hi again 'Lightchime",

As you are so interesting in learning about Photoshop; I will once again intrude with just another disturbance to your peaceful frame of mind on this Sunday afternoon.

I suggest you don't spread your defeatist attitude quite so glibly with statements like you gave in your criticism "...Some images just don't make it because of lack of tonal range in the camera..." Why? read on...

In the days of that much more limited medium we used to call 'film'; reciprocity killed off expose failure recovery attempt potentials far sooner than with this new digital, light capturing medium we have to suffer with today. Give these new digitized cameras a chance to demonstrate their more than adaquate powers, even those smaller sensor types (compacts included), before short-changing them (see my illustration to someone else earlier today, with photos attached).

Cameras aside, you should be on top of the world, realizing the recovery potential of Photoshop, you should, or will if you learn enough about it, that darkroom recovery and or dodging etc for hours on end in the darkroom, has been well and truely brushed away. There is a lot more that could be done with that Egrit shot, if exposed to the talented expertise of a photoshop operator. When you reach this position or expertise and be observant enough of photo recovery potential, then you can push digital cameras' lack of tonal range capability's/limitations down the drain, until then learn, don't criticize.

Wish your concentration and perserverence holds out for learning the tricks of the trade (so to speak) with Photoshop. The only thing is that Photoshop will always out pace you, with far more than a wing flap, though I wish you well in your efforts to keep apace.

Successful photography as well.

Hi Acountry330, Your Egrit is causing quite a learning argument with one UHH, thankfully you have one admirer in: "horseart', a very discerning UHH from way back.

I'm just hoping that you don't mind me muocking around with this one - I'm presuming not because I am using this one as an illustration of one point I made to a critic today. I'm hoping that they will learn from it and my accompanying comments.

Of course, I'm also hoping that in compensation, you too will gain and enjoy this later tampering with your beautifully potential image of this Egrit.

I'd like to think that you are going to find your RAW of this one and proudly put it up on yor wall, or somewhere.

Enjoy - rts2568
