Well, two thoughts: that's why the Navy has Beach Masters and 'Damn sand gets everywhere. I would also note that tanks make big targets, but then you would be so unkind to likewise observe ships are even bigger. 😎

Very warm, and humid. The photo is on Wunder Beach, I Corps. The New Jersey sat off the coast there in late 68 and early 69. We would site on her but would max out the range finder at 4400 meters, if memory serves.
