I went for a paddle this morning and brought my Nikon D5600 with AF-P 70-300 DX lens along. I always saw numerous birds when I did this trip and finally decided to photograph them. I've never photographed flying birds before so it was a learning experience. I shot JPEG to get a bigger buffer and used Dynamic-area & Continuous AF. All my pics were shot between 1/1000 & 1/2000 shutter speed with F 6.3. I set the camera to auto ISO to adjust to whatever the lighting was. Does anyone know what bird #4 is. I have no idea. I'm located in central Wisconsin and it was the size of a mallard duck if that helps.
Nice set. #4 is definitely a Green Heron.
Good work and better reflexes, Matt!
Looks like a green heron.
Really nice captures. Love the Green Heron in flight.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I've never heard of a Green Heron before. It's a neat looking bird.
Nice shots Matt. About two weeks ago I was at the state conservation area that I have visited numerous times. On a small tree in the water sat three birds that I had never seen before. I got pictures and my bird ID app identified them as green herons. I had never heard of them either.
Really like the composition and lighting of #3 image.
