Don, thanks. Now you have me all excited, wishing I could pull together enough $$ for one just like that.
For those who don't know, I PM'd Don and told him how I had a neighbor, two houses down, when I was a kid in the early 60s who had a car exactly like the one above. Once I saw that car I've been in love with the XKE, especially a yellow V12 roadster. I specifically remember seeing that speedometer that went to 160 and dreaming of being able to go that fast, top down, wire wheels, V12 screaming. Yeah, I drove a 1958 MGA for about four years so I know all about Lucas electric, wire wheels, solid lifters, dampers and SU carburetors. An English sports car isn't transportation, it's a hobby.
Thanks, Don. Nice images of a beautiful car.

Beautiful! When I was on base I owned a red 1966 TR4 IRS. There was a Captain who owned a green XKE. They were the only two British cars on base. I never fell in love with the XKE body style, but I would give my eye teeth to have my TR4 back. The refurbished ones are just too expensive. The only thing I didn't care for on my car were those stromburg (?)carburetors. Also, getting the car serviced if one had problems was difficult. I remember I opened the bonnet to check the oil and the cable snapped. I was going on leave the very same day. I drove it to a mechanic and he had to remove the bonnet for repair. What an ordeal that was. The Brits made beautiful cars, but maintenance was a real bear at least for one that was non-mechanically inclined. Thanks for showing.

I drove a 58 MGA and my roommate had a TR4. His was so much more car than that MG would ever be. He was road racing 240 and 260Z's and leaving them in the dust. Another guy I knew in the Marine Corps had a Sunbeam Tiger with the small Ford V8. Heavy sigh.

In 1963 my stepfather had I believe either an Alfa Romeo 2000 or 2600 that was larger than the Alfa Spyder I later purchased for my wife in 1972. It was red a convertible and it was fast. I remember getting it up to 138 mph or at least that is what I recall. Lucky I didn’t get a ticket or get killed. It got me a date with the prettiest girl in school, one date but it was all about the Alfa. That memory cost me later when I bought the Spyder. Very problematic but great driving car. That was a great era for sport cars.
