I believe our Scottish friend is correct. bioteacher, go into your post-processing software and reduce the exposure a lot. I think you'll find that the object "floating" over the egret's feet in the first photo is the underside of the tip of the right wing with the rest of the wing blown out so you don't see it. If you look at the second photo you will see the same thing but with much more of the wing showing. R.G. got it right. You could try reducing the whites a lot and/or reducing the highlights and see if that brings it back. Or you could leave it as is and let people wonder what the heck is going on there.
