I grew up in SA and used to see these in our back yard. Spending much of their time on the ground looking for seeds, etc, they also enjoyed finding a dusty spot in our driveway where they would rattle around, getting rid of mites, other pests, etc. The mature birds have a tan color. Great picture!

Thanks Oldart. Most of what we see are Whitewings and Mourning Doves with a few of these throw in. But that fish scale pattern catches your eye.

Here in Dallas we see & hear many more whitewings than mourning doves. I understand they're more aggressive and have just run much of the smaller mourning doves out of town. Growing up, you had to go to the Valley if you wanted to hunt whitewings.
