30 months there during two sabbaticals. Hit twice now on 100% V A disability, after taking them to court.

No Billy Bob that is not the reason. Those of you on the Left whined and cried that he was hurting some of our allies by pulling out.

My choice would be to pack up everything we own in the Middle East today and be gone tomorrow. We have done everything we can do over there and should let these tribes from 800 years back settle their own differences. Not one more American life should be lost for that region.

What was the reason he did not pull out? Why are we still in the big sand box? I with you out not next mouth or next year, NOW!

This banner NEEDS to be hung in the halls of Congress in order to remind ALL in that branch of our government of the sacrifice some of us made.

You might recall the Left started screaming and yelling that one of our allies would be left defenseless.

I hate it when people say thank you for your service. It sounds so empty to me. We need to take care of our soldiers and our veterans. Lip service is so easy.

I totally agree!! No one was saying that when I came home as a retired vet some years ago. Just seemed to turn into a fad a few years ago. Ya wanna say thanks then make a contribution to the homeless veterans society.

Thank you both for your service! Without people like you, we would not have the wonderful country we do have.

Correct! And there are those that want to take that away from us, and people will actually vote them into office.

I believe some of those people who put veterans down all these years ago are starting to/have seen the error of their ways. Of course not everyone and I know of at least one person in The Attic who has no respect for our military in any shape, form or fashion. But there was an awakening across the country of people who truly woke up and realized that because they did not like the Vietnam War they did not have to hate those of us who served in that war. Most have no clue that military personnel do not have the luxury of saying, NO.

But there are some decent people around who do truly mean it when they say thank you for your service. Another factor to consider is that right now we have some negative people out there who also are against our military and police. Some want to completely get rid of the police. But it is not those people you are discussing.

I still say, Thank you for your service when I see someone in uniform. I have had the honor of greeting many Vietnam veterans and more WW2 veterans than I can shake a stick at with a few Korean War veterans mingled in there too. Many have started tearing up when I spoke to them, just as I do occasionally when someone thanks me for my service. I don't question why they are thanking me but just accept the respect given for a job well done. We owe that to every man and woman who has served on that wall going back to 1775, maybe 1763.

Thank YOU for your service. You did GOOD.

In pondering the point you made I concede that you are right. It's not easy to let go of old grudges but that's no excuse to continue kicking the same ole can down the road. Time marches on, think maybe it would be a good thing if I got back in cadence. Thanks for your post!

My friend you just made my day and it was already a winner for me for other things going on.

I was where you are for the first 10 years after getting back from my second tour in January 1968. I was raised right after WW2 and recall my parents telling us of high school friends being killed on D Day, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, Okinawa and other places where America fought. My brothers and I grew up knowing those friends of our parents who survived.

We did not join the military for parades, medals or thanks. But we also did not think we would be scorned either.

But looking back the American military did not lose in Vietnam. The Democrats lost the war in Vietnam. Congress was supposed to continue supplying Vietnam with materiel, one for one after we left so the South could continue fighting. As per their usual the Democrats reneged and did not fulfill their promises of continued supplies. The South fell. Thanks to the Democratic Party it is said America lost.

America has lost a lot thanks to the Left.

Welcome home knowing you did one hell of a job just as America’s military has always done.

This thread is about Vets, not your politics and who you support. Lets keep it that way.

Sorry to spoil your day but it was only veterans who put their lives on the line so the man could post his view whether you like it or not. That is what is meant by FREEDOM.

That is MY way.

All of us who served contributed, some more than others. My point was that by throwing politics into the mix, the focus shifts from the disgrace of still having to say homeless Vets and other Vet’s issues, to who you are or are not voting for, who you blame for your perceived issues and problems. Before you know it, nobody is talking about Vets anymore. I know we’re all free to express our opinions, but in this case, if we stick to the topic at hand, the more people we can make aware of what some in the Veteran Community have to face. And by doing that, the greater the chance that maybe, just maybe, one of our Brothers or Sisters doesn’t have to suffer as much.

My friend I thank you for your service. I thank everyone who has ever served. Each of us who served played an important role in America winning the battle, the war. No doubt of that.

But it is the politicians who unfortunately rule our military and we veterans who served. Surely you recall the Obama administration when veterans in some areas died because the supervisors kept a dual set of books and veterans needing help died. That is an example of politics in veterans affairs and why we bring politics up at all. Wouldn’t it be great if veterans were taken care of as they/we should be? Who we vote for makes a difference in our continued healthcare and veterans benefits.

In my opinion the Left does not care about veterans,

Be well,

Dennis

I couldn’t agree with you more that politicians are the problem. Where we differ is that I blame them all. It’s over 45 years since 30April ‘75, and both parties have controlled the White House and the Legislature in that time. Yet most of what Vets have received in that time is horse manure. Look at the water contamination problem at Camp Lejeune. That started right after Korea, and the politicians didn’t even talk about it until ‘09! I think the more time we spend on who to blame, the less there is to find real solutions.

My husband's best buddy went to Nam and was killed there. My husband has visited his grave every year since, but stopped last year. I asked why and he said "it was just time to stop". This year I said I was going to go with him because Charlie Johnson was his best friend and deserves a visit every year possible. We went together and spent some time with Charlie. It made my husband happy he did it. I will go with him every year after this. I do thank all vets for their time and effort-their service. Without them, how could I guarantee that we will go visit Charlie every year?
