How do I merge catalogues in LR Classic

I just export as a catalog and then import as a catalog and all of 90,000 images are in one folder and on one external drive....makes it all very easy. I'm usually only exporting/importing the metadata, which is very quick and easy. The metadata synchs up with the already imported original file. I do wish people could write out things in explicit fashion so others might have the opportunity to actually understand the process.
