Last Wednesday morning as I was loading the garbage in the barn to take to the road I picked up a big bag and underneath it was a copperhead. Two copperhead encounters in a 4-day period. Keeps an old man alert.

We have copperheads and rattlesnakes. On a hike one day I ran into some ladies who had encountered a rattlesnake and I was so wishing it had been me so I could have taken some pictures. I've never seen one in the wild.

If you're ever in the Cross Timbers of Texas, come by and see us. We have a canyon where they say the rattlers are the size of one of your legs. Personally, I have never been down in that part of the canyon, but I can point you in that direction.

Yes, I know Texas and a few other southeastern states have a lot of rattlers.

Terrific image of that snakeās signature method of warning display, analogous to a rattlesnakeās rattling! As I recall southern Illinois is the northern extreme of its range.

I've had a little experience with Cottonmouths and I have yet to see one "flee". A bad ass snake. It seems that all cottonmouths have an attitude and fleeing is not one of them

Love this. I keep ball pythons and they are about as docile as can be. I had a run in with an 8ft rat snake a couple weeks ago and although not venomous that thing had big big attitude and fleeing was the last thing on its mind. Unfortunately, I did not have my camera with me that day. Great shot!

Yeah, I had one follow me down my driveway like a puppy dog when I was headed to the garbage can with a bag of garbage. When I turned around it was right behind me and I must have jumped 3 feet off the ground. It slithered back and went under a watermelon vine I had allowed to grow up by the back porch. I blew it's head off with a shotgun. I went over the watermelon vine with a lawnmower.
